Weather Plus pulls your site's current weather and forecast from the internet, writes that data to KNX points on the automation server, and feeds shading, irrigation and climate scenarios with the weather.
What it does
Automation scenarios usually see the inside but not the outside; blinds are blind to the sun, irrigation to the rain, heating to the cold. Weather Plus closes that gap. It pulls your site's current weather and forecast and writes them to KNX points on the automation server. Shading, wind and rain protection, irrigation and pre-heating then run on those points.
Where the weather data comes from
The data comes from a cloud weather service. You open your own account with that service and enter your API key in the app; you set the site by latitude and longitude. The app only pulls data with a request that leaves the device; no incoming connection to the device is accepted. The key stays on the device.
What it measures
The app collects twenty-two weather types across three time layers: current values, an eight-hour forecast and a six-day forecast including today. You get temperature, feels-like temperature, humidity, wind speed, gust and direction, pressure, UV, cloud cover, precipitation probability and intensity, visibility and more. Daily forecasts add each value's average, high and low; total rain, snow and evapotranspiration; and sunrise and sunset. You choose metric or imperial units.
How often it refreshes
Current values refresh every ten minutes. The eight-hour and six-day forecasts arrive every hour. Date and time points update every minute without going to the service. These intervals are fixed.
On the KNX side
You choose which value types are created as KNX points; there is also a “Select all” button. Points are generated from a single start address. When the app is updated, existing points stay in place and their addresses do not change. The start block must be empty; if another object is in it, generation stops, the occupied addresses are shown to you, and your existing project is not overwritten.
Ready-made graphic pages
The app produces ready-made graphic pages, one for tablet and one for phone. You add the page to the graphic screen with a frame element and enter its address; the address is the same on every device. The pages refresh every minute, open in the language chosen at install, and show every value — including the types you did not create in KNX. The graphic does not read from KNX, so the KNX line is not burdened.
If the internet goes down
If the internet goes down, the app does not crash. It keeps the current forecast and shifts it each hour, so every label always shows its own hour. The “data freshness” point drops to zero; your automation can see this and move to a safe path. When the connection returns, the flow resumes on its own.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own account?
Yes. You open your own account with a cloud weather service and enter your API key in the app; a free account is enough. The key stays on the device and is not sent out.
How is the location set?
You set the site by latitude and longitude. The app does not show a place name; it takes the location by coordinates.
Are air quality and pollen included?
No. The app takes weather values such as temperature, humidity, wind, precipitation, UV, cloud cover and visibility; air quality, pollen and solar irradiance are not part of this app.
Will it overwrite my existing KNX addresses?
No. Points are generated into an empty start block; if the block is occupied, generation stops and the occupied addresses are shown.
What happens without internet?
The app does not crash. The last forecast is kept, the “data freshness” point drops to zero, and the flow resumes when the connection returns.
Are my data and backup safe?
The app only pulls data with an outgoing request; no incoming connection to the device is accepted. Backups are password-encrypted; if the password is lost, the backup cannot be opened. The API key is not included in a backup and is entered once again after a restore.
Weather Plus is included in the Home license and is installed from the store in the Sona Application Center.
The app runs on Sona Home and Sona BMS automation servers; the values it produces are used on the graphic screen and in scenarios over KNX.
