The Sona Zigbee Gateway connects to the automation server through its RS-232 port, brings wireless Zigbee devices into the system, and takes up two modules in the electrical panel: a gateway.

What it is for

Zigbee is a wireless device protocol and the automation server does not speak it directly. This gateway sits in between: it gathers the devices on the Zigbee side and passes them to the server over RS-232. Once connected, Zigbee devices look like any other device in the system; they appear on the same screen, in the same scenes and in the same schedules.

How it connects

The gateway sits on the DIN rail in the panel and takes up two modules. It connects to the server over an RS-232 line and is powered from 24 volts DC. The antenna comes in the box and screws on with an SMA connector.

How many devices

Up to 50 Zigbee devices connect to one gateway. Because the antenna comes in the box, the range extends without buying an extra part. If more devices are needed, several gateways are added to the same server.

Which servers it works with

The gateway works with both the Sona Home and the Sona BMS automation server. Both have an RS-232 port and the connection is made the same way.

Frequently asked questions

Does my server have an RS-232 port?

Yes. Sona Home and Sona BMS both have a software-selectable RS-485 / RS-232 port.

Is the antenna bought separately?

No. The antenna comes in the box and screws on with an SMA connector.

How many devices does one gateway carry?

Up to 50 Zigbee devices. For more, a second gateway is added to the same server.

Will my existing Zigbee devices work?

The device needs to be able to join the Zigbee network. Which devices have been verified is listed on the Compatible Systems page.

The gateway does not work on its own; it connects to a Sona Home or Sona BMS automation server.
